No Mariano buyback clause – Lyon

Real Madrid do not hold a buyback clause for former striker Mariano Diaz, according to his current club Olympique Lyonnais.

The 24-year-old has already hit seven goals in nine Ligue 1 appearances since his switch from Madrid with reports in Spain suggesting Los Blancos held a buyback clause.

“Olympique Lyonnais wish to point out that there was no repurchase clause in the transfer of Mariano Diaz, contrary to some assertions made by some in the Spanish media,” read a club statement, as translated by Diario AS.

“Olympique Lyonnais explained precisely the terms of the transfer in its press release of 30 June 2017, namely the transfer amount of €8m plus 35% interest on the capital gain of a potential future transfer.

“Any information other than that given in the Olympique Lyonnais press release is therefore erroneous.”

The Dominican-born striker made 14 appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s side last season, netting five times.
