Neymar told his former Barcelona teammates he was leaving the club for Paris Saint-Germain at Lionel Messi’s wedding, according to Xavi Hernandez.
The Brazil international joined the Parisians in a world record €222m deal from the Blaugrana in summer with his former teammate and club captain stating other players only found out at Messi’s wedding in July.
“He said to us at Messi's wedding that he wanted to change club,” Xavi explained on the BBC’s World Football show.
“I said to him but why? He said 'I am not happy in Barcelona, I prefer to leave, to have a new experience in Europe at PSG and finally he did, it was his decision, we must respect it.
“I think with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, PSG have a great chance to win the Champions League this season.”
Xavi and Neymar played together for Barca between 2013 and 2015, winning the treble in the 2014-15 campaign.
