‘Ronaldo always there for Madrid’

Marcelo hailed Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo for always being “there when we need him” after his winner against Getafe.

Ronaldo scored his first goal of the season in La Liga to not only fire Madrid to a 2-1 win at Getafe but also secure a 13th-straight victory away from home for Los Blancos – a Spanish record.

“[The Coliseum Alfonso Perez] is a difficult place to play,” the left-back said after the game.

“Our opponents are always more motivated against us, but we did well. It’s been said that we scored an offside goal, but that doesn’t matter…

“What matters is that we read the match after we conceded the goal and we did a great job.

“Ronaldo? We know what he can give Madrid, if he doesn’t score in two games…

“He deserves a lot of credit for everything he’s done, and he’s there when we need him.

“Thirteen away wins? These are things that happen in football. I can’t explain the reasons behind it, but we’re trying to improve with each match in order to close the gap and we’re fighting to get to the top of the table.

“Long grass? Yes, but it didn’t worry us. Everyone plays as they should and we try to adapt to different pitches. There’s no problem.”
