Iniesta: Shame not to win, but…

Andres Iniesta admits it was a ‘shame’ not to beat Atletico Madrid on Saturday but insists Barcelona remain on the right track.

Atleti had taken the lead through Saul Niguez, but Barca left Wanda Metropolitano with a 1-1 draw thanks to Luis Suarez’s equaliser, prompting Iniesta to pat his teammates on the back for a ‘great’ performance.

“Overall, we had a great game, both in attack and defence,” the midfielder said after the match.

“It didn’t look like we had been away for internationals and we came close to winning the match.

“We created chances, but that aside, it was a good match. It’s a shame that we didn’t pick up the three points, but we picked up [one] and go forward.

“We’ll try to keep growing on the path that we’ve marked out, and we must improve. It’s always been difficult to win here and against this team.

“That’s why we appreciate this point and the match we had, although there are things to improve on, like always.

“Catalonia? We like to play in football matches and enjoy them in a spectacular atmosphere,

beyond all the outside things.

“It was a great match against a great team. We failed to score the second goal, but that’s football and we did a great job. We had chances to win and we did well defensively.”
