Ronaldo ‘surprised’ by criticism

Cristiano Ronaldo admits he is ‘surprised’ by public opinion about him but ‘the numbers speak for themselves’ after his 400th game for Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old netted twice in Los Blancos 3-1 win at Borussia Dortmund – his fourth and fifth goals of the campaign despite missing five domestic matches through suspension.

“It seems that after every game, I have to show who I am,” Ronaldo told reporters.

“I’m surprised by the public opinion about me – once more, the numbers speak for themselves; I’m very happy to have played my 400th game for the club and however many goals (411) I have.

“I am a professional and always prepared for criticism, which gets worse all the time. But if there is a reason I am who I am, it is hard work and my teammates."
