Casemiro rues ‘bad luck’, but…

Casemiro rued Real Madrid’s “bad luck” in their 1-0 defeat to Real Betis but insisted “we’re the same team that won everything last season”.

Antonio Sanabria’s last-gasp winner on Wednesday shocked Madrid, who failed to take any of their 22 chances against Betis, but Casemiro made it clear Los Blancos would show their trophy pedigree sooner rather than later.

“It was bad luck, given how much we created, tried and fought,” he said after the game.

“That’s s football, and sometimes it’s unfair. We have to congratulate Betis, who fought, worked hard and had a good game here.

“We played here in the Champions League here and won. We created several chances, but that’s football. There are days when the ball doesn’t go in. We have to keep fighting, there’s a lot of time left.

“We have seven points to make up, but we have to keep a cool head. We’re working hard.

“We’re the same team that won everything last season, and we’ll keep working like we have.

“We know that a draw here at home wouldn’t be worth anything, so we must have a clear head. One point would be better than a defeat.

“Barca? We have to think about ourselves.”
