Sergi Darder has spoken of the difficulty of leaving Olympique Lyonnais but was swayed by the chance to return to Espanyol.
The 23-year-old midfielder spent two seasons at the Ligue 1 giants before joining the Catalan club late last month, where he spent five years earlier in his career.
“My time in France helped me improve a lot,” Darder explained in an interview with Marca.
“It allowed me to develop many aspects of my game and as a person but ultimately, my style of play is probably better suited to La Liga.
“Coming home here is a big deal for me, both myself and the club wanted to push through this deal so we are all very excited.
“It was definitely a tough decision to leave Lyon, they are a giant not just in France but in Europe and when a club is so successful, it is difficult to depart but that shows my desire to come here.
“Now we must work hard on trying to get our first victory of the campaign, it will be the most important result of the season so all our efforts are now focused on Celta Vigo.”
