Adan: Error my full responsibility

Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan has taken ‘full responsibility’ for the error that led to Villarreal’s equalising goal on Sunday.

The goalkeeper failed to control a close-range back pass from defender Jordi Amat with opposition striker Carlos Bacca pouncing on the error and drawing Villarreal – who eventually won 3-1 – level.

Criticism for the former Real Madrid goalkeeper followed while Coach Quique Setien also was questioned for insisting on consistently playing out from the back.

“The error of judgement is my responsibility,” Adan told ABC de Sevilla.

“I’m very happy with the ideas of the Coach – it was not his fault that I made the mistake, or indeed the mistake of Jordi (Amat).

“It is totally my responsibility and it is wrong to blame anyone else, and I do believe I am a much better goalkeeper now than I was five months ago (before Setien’s appointment).

“Betis have a new identity and we are all committed to it, we are improving because of it and we will work hard to eradicate any mistakes.

“We are not reckless and we do not want to make unnecessary mistakes, we need to concentrate and ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
