Atleti to sign Diego Costa ‘this week’

Atletico Madrid will conclude a deal for Chelsea striker Diego Costa this week with negotiations advanced, according to reports in Spain.

Marca state the English champions have finally agreed to enter into negotiations to sell the 28-year-old since his return to London after spending three months in Brazil.

The expected transfer fee is expected to be in the region of €60m (£54m) – which would make the Spain international Atletico’s most expensive ever signing.

It is not yet clear how much of that fee will be a lump sum payment and what add-ons or future fees are included, but there is a desire on all sides to conclude a deal.

He will not be able to play for Diego Simeone’s side until January as the transfer window will not officially open until then, but the clubs could confirm the deal in advance.

Despite being included in the club’s Premier League squad, it is not thought the striker will play for Antonio Conte’s team again after a text message earlier this summer instructing the player to find a new club.

Having left Los Rojiblancos for Stamford Bridge in 2014 after winning La Liga, Costa has repeatedly expressed a desire to return to Madrid throughout the summer.
