Sport: Iniesta wants new Barca deal

Andres Iniesta wants to sign a new deal at Barcelona despite denying talks of an ‘agreement in principle’, according to reports in Spain.

The 33-year-old rejected claims by club president Josep Maria Bartomeu that he had agreed a new deal at the Camp Nou, but according to Diario Sport he is still hopeful of renewing at the club.

The Barcelona-based newspaper insists the new contract is the midfielder’s priority and he is still willing to strike a deal ‘despite discrepancies’ between the parties.

Sport say a proposed deal by the club was a ‘lifetime extension’ whereby the Spain international could decide at the end of each season whether he wanted to renew or not, giving him power over the club.

Despite their confident a deal will eventually be struck, they finalise by stating ‘no agreement is imminent’.
