Montero optimistic for ‘fresh start’

New Getafe winger Jefferson Montero has detailed his joy at returning to La Liga and hopes his persistent injury problems are behind him.

The 28-year-old completed a late move to the Madrid-based club from Swansea City last week after an injury-disrupted three year spell in England, where he struggled to shake off a recurring hamstring injury.

“I’m really happy to return to La Liga, this is a fresh start,” Montero, formerly of Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis, told reporters.

“Hopefully my injuries are now behind me, I believe they are and I have trained well since arriving here so things are positive.

“My opening game against Leganes? It’s great to start with a derby as the fans will really be behind us, but they have won six points from six and are in good form, so it will be a very tough match.

“I don’t regret my move to England, it was fantastic to experience a different league despite the problems I had with injuries and it made me who I am today.”
