Emery blasts ‘inaccurate reports’

Paris-Saint Germain boss Unai Emery has hit out at ‘inaccurate’ reports of comments attributed to him in relation to Barcelona’s pursuit of Marco Verratti.

Spanish TV station Cuatro captured the former Sevilla boss reportedly telling Ernesto Valverde: “Barca never seriously went after Verratti”.

The Blaugrana’s sporting director Robert Fernandez then responded to this report in a press conference on Saturday: “That's not true, and Unai knows it.”

Emery then took to social media to post his take on the situation: ”Firstly, Robert and I have a great friendship which dates back to (our time at) Valencia.

“Secondly, we talked about Verratti two months ago and everything was made clear at the time.

“This incorrect controversy has arisen because of an inaccurate translation of my chat with Valverde […] which wasn't true to what I really said, when we did indeed talk about Verratti, amongst other things.

“So the related reports that have appeared in recent days have no basis in reality.”
