Barca’s ambitious Ozil plan

Barcelona attempted to ‘barter’ for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil to exploit the North London club’s interest in Mesut Ozil, say reports in Spain.

El Mundo Deportivo report the Gunners were extremely keen on the out-of-favour Turkish midfielder and Barca believed a move for Ozil, whose contract expires in June 2018, was feasible.

The Premier League club met such interest with an outright rejection, with a preference to risk Ozil – formerly of Real Madrid – leaving on a free transfer rather than sell him a year earlier.

The Blaugrana are still keen on a deal to offload Arda this week with his agent Jorge Mendes offering the Turk to Monaco, with Galatasaray also harbouring an interest in re-signing him.
