There has been progress in discussions to bring Chelsea striker Diego Costa back to Atletico Madrid with a fee of €44m (£41m) discussed, say reports.
The Spain international is yet to return to training with the English champions since being told by manager Antonio Conte he was free to leave Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.
According to the London Evening Standard, the 28-year-old’s attempts to force a return to Los Rojiblancos have finally started to bear fruit with talks between the clubs.
Atleti made an opening bid of €28m (£26m) offer for the want away striker while the London club were said to be demanding closer to €53m (£50m), with a compromise now moving closer.
The report concludes that Costa has no desire to remain in England during a temporarily loan deal, as Diego Simeone’s side cannot register any new players until January 2018.
