Athletic Bilbao will join Villarreal and Real Sociedad in the group stages of the Europa League after defeating Panathinaikos 4-2 on aggregate.
The Basque club will find out their group stage fate on Friday after Iker Munain’s strike midway through the first half was enough for them to safely progress past the Greek side.
Jose Angel Ziganda’s side had triumphed 3-2 in Athens the previous week despite having trailed by two goals and their progress into the group stages was never in doubt in Bilbao.
Attacking midfielder Munain’s 22nd minute goal proved to be enough and despite Andres Chavez seeing his effort come off the post for the visitors, the outcome of the tie was rarely in any doubt.
