Atletico Madrid captain Gabi is hopeful Diego Costa will return to the club but has advised the striker to ‘respect’ his current club Chelsea.
The 34-year-old who was teammates with the Spain international striker when they won La Liga for Los Rojiblancos in 2014, was hopeful any deal could be conducted without bad feeling.
“From what I understand, Atletico Madrid want to sign him and he wants to join,” Gabi told a press conference.
“However, we must know that there is Chelsea in the middle and when you are part of a club you must respect the badge and try and leave in the best way.”
Costa’s fallout with Chelsea looks set to continue with the striker refusing to return to training and the English champions threatening legal action.
