Pique ‘knew Neymar would leave’

Gerard Pique admits he knew Neymar would leave Barcelona “100 percent” and that the forward was “angry” with his ‘se queda’ tweet.

Pique famously wrote Neymar was staying at Barca in a Twitter post, only for the Brazilian to leave for Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record, 222m transfer barely a week later

“I wanted public opinion to change his opinion,” the defender said at a Press conference for Sunday’s Supercopa first leg against Real Madrid.

“Still, I’m not a journalist or means of communication, although it’s true that I’d like to make one.

“I’m not a spokesperson for anyone and I use social media as I want, whether people like it or not.

“I don’t have to give news or scoops. It was for the good of Barca. It’s like in poker, I bluffed and it didn’t go well.

“I don’t feel cheated by Neymar. A few players tried to convince him to stay, but I did the tweet knowing 100 percent that he’d leave, although I did it to keep him.

“He was angry with me but only for a few hours and then it passed. I guess he has his reasons, economic or another.”
