Mel frustration at lack of funds

Deportivo La Coruna Coach Pepe Mel has vented his frustration at his club’s lack of funds in light of their attempts to sign Arsenal striker Lucas Perez.

The Galician club have tabled a bid to re-sign the 28-year-old but fall short of the €12m asking price of the Gunners, leaving the door open to others.

"Some clubs are signing players for more than €200m, others for €30-50m, while we can't afford €12m for Lucas Perez,” lamented Mel on El Partidazo de Cope.

“We are of course happy with the arrival of a second forward (Adrian Lopez) but we need at least one more for the position.

“The opening day? We are working very hard and studying Madrid closely, our aim is to take the three points from the game.

“Our hope is that when there have been four or five games of the season, nobody is talking about Depor getting relegated.”
