Santos Borre joins River Plate for €3m

Atletico Madrid forward Rafael Santos Borre has joined River Plate on a permanent deal for a reported fee of €3m.

Los Rojiblancos signed the Colombian forward in 2015 from Deportivo Cali but he did not make a first-team appearance in Madrid, instead being loaned back to the Colombian side before a season-long stint at Villarreal.

The 21-year-old netted four times in 30 appearances for the Yellow Submarine last season but will join the Argentine giants in a deal Marca claims is in the region of €3m, plus 50% of any future sale.

"Atletico Madrid and River Plate have reached an agreement for the transfer of Rafael Santos Borre,” read a statement on Atleti’s website.

"From Atletico Madrid, we wish him the best of luck in this new phase."

His exit coincided with the sale of midfielder Matias Kranevitter, formerly of River, to Zenit Saint Petersburg.
