Gabriel Mercado insists the club will maintain their high-risk and high-pressing approach this season as they are a team ‘who want to be winners’.
The 30-year-old defender joined the Andalucians last summer from River Plate, making 40 appearances across all competitions and believes under Eduardo Berizzo the side will build on their identity under Jorge Sampaoli.
“We always trying to press high up the pitch and attack as a team,” Mercado told an interview with Marca.
“Of course this approach carries risk but pre-season is here for us to attempt to improve that aspect and adjust some details.
"Any team who wants to be winners usually defend with fewer players whilst those at the back have to attempt to reduce the chances they concede.
"There are two more weeks left to reach our best and the Coach is demanding we all work hard and continue improving.
“I am working hard to be at the disposal of the Coach, either as a centre-back or on the right side of defence – a position that I know and feel comfortable with.”
