Sevilla have completed the signing of defender Gabriel Mercado from River Plate for a reported €2.5m.
Mercado landed in Seville on Thursday morning before passing a medical and putting pen to paper on a three-year-contract with Los Nervionenses later that day.
“Everything went very quickly and I’m very anxious [to start],” he told Sevilla’s official website.
“[Thursday] is my first day, I passed the [medical] tests, signed my contract and will have my first training session.
“After that, I’ll see the shirt [for the European Super Cup] and keep it because it’ll be a nice memory.
The 29-year-old has 10 caps for Argentina as he represented his country at Copa America in June and was part of the River team that lost to Barcelona in the 2015 Club World Cup final.
