Newcastle join Perez race

Newcastle United are the latest club to join the race for wantaway Arsenal’s Lucas Perez after Rafael Benitez expressed his admiration of the striker.

The 28-year-old’s former club Deportivo La Coruna reportedly have lodged a €10m bid while Turkish giants Fenerbahce have also been linked with a move for the striker who joined The Gunners for €20m last season.

"I like the player (Perez) because I have good friends in A Coruna," Benitez told reporters over the weekend, as quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle.

"I know that he did really well. He's come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.

"We know what we need and will try to do it until the end of the transfer window, we are now trying to work in different directions at the time."

Perez netted only once in eleven league outings for Arsenal in his sole season in North London where he struggled to dislodge the established attackers at the club, who have since signed Alexandre Lacazette.
