Ligue 1 backs PSG over Neymar

Ligue 1 has condemned La Liga for holding up Neymar’s proposed transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and vowed to help the club sign the Barcelona forward.

Reports on Thursday emerged that La Liga was refusing to accept the €222m PSG had put forward to release Neymar from his Barca contract, on the grounds that it violated Financial Fair Play.

“The LFP is surprised and does not understand La Liga’s refusal to simply accept the payment of Neymar’s release clause,” read a statement the official website of France’s Professional Football League (LFP).

“The LFP asks La Liga to abide by FIFA’s rules and its remit. The LFP supports Paris Saint-Germain and hopes Neymar will play in Ligue 1.

“The legal services of the LFP are in support and at the disposal of Paris Saint-Germain, so that Neymar’s contract is approved as soon as possible.”
