Barcelona are “calm” over Neymar’s future amid Paris Saint-Germain speculation and Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are convincing the Brazilian.
AS notes President Josep Maria Bartomeu told reporters the club are “calm” over the forward’s future despite reports that Neymar told Bartomeu he wants to leave Camp Nou when the pair spoke over the phone.
Mundo Deportivo, meanwhile, adds that Messi, Suarez and Gerard Pique are trying to talk Neymar into staying and that Pique had an ‘intense’ conversation with Neymar.
Messi and Suarez have told Neymar he is the future of the club in an attempt to counter pressure MD claims is coming from Dani Alves, who has recently joined PSG and has called for Neymar to follow him to a club where he can be the on-field leader and escape Messi’s shadow.
MD believes that Neymar’s future will be settled soon and in Barca’s favour, and that his intention was always to remain with Barca but the magnitude of the offer from France created doubts, and he was at one point leaning towards PSG, thanks in part to the number of Brazilians on the books at the Parc des Princes.
It has though been a full court press from Barca to convince Neymar to stay, not limited to Bartomeu or the players, and administrators such as Jordi Mestre, Javier Bordas, Raul Sanllehi and Andre Cury have been doing their part as well.
