PSG looking for Neymar ‘sponsorship’

Paris Saint-Germain could land Qatari sponsorship to sign Neymar from Barcelona and avoid falling foul of FFP regulations.

Marca claims the French club have been told Neymar will quit Barca if they can trigger his €222m release clause but doing so would conflict with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.

PSG are said to be exploring the possibility of a personal sponsorship agreement between Neymar and the owners of the club, which it’s felt could be justified to UEFA by Neymar’s high profile.

In that case, with PSG out of the loop on money paid to Neymar or Barcelona, the club’s accounts wouldn’t be affected.

Marca points out, however, that the legality of such an arrangement would be complex and UEFA in 2013 rejected a similar agreement that saw Qatar Tourism sponsor PSG to the tune of €200m a year, as it was set-up solely to benefit PSG while not impacting the club’s FFP obligations.
