Cerci ‘lost so much’ at Atletico

Alessio Cerci has spoken of his regret at his disastrous move to Atletico Madrid, from which he says he ‘lost so much on a human level.’

Cerci swapped Torino for Atletico in the summer of 2015 but made only one appearance for Los Colchoneros and has recently signed for Serie A new boys Hellas Verona.

“I went to Madrid on September 1 without preparation because Torino were slow to complete the operation,” Cerci told the Gazzetta Dello Sport, AS reports.

“I’ve been through a lot of things but I don’t want to feed the controversy. If I could go back in time I wouldn’t go to Atletico, it’s a decision that cost me a lot.

“I lost so much on a human level, the love of a lot of the Torino fans, who loved me and I was told that going to Spain was not a good choice. I wanted to play in the Champions League and take a step in my career.

“I’ve not played a real game in a year-and-a-half, after two years as almost a spectator it’s nice to feel the pain in my legs in these training sessions.”
