Chelsea have confirmed a deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata which is reported to break the record spent on a Spanish footballer.
The 24-year-old will move to Stamford Bridge for €80m up front with a further €5m in bonuses, according to claims in Marca, Diario AS and El Mundo Deportivo.
“I am moving to the manager who has bet the most on me,” the front page of Thursday’s AS quoted the Spain international as saying.
Morata leaves the Bernabeu due to lack of first-team playing opportunities but despite starting only 14 La Liga matches last season, he netted 15 times.
Madrid refused to bargain down their initial asking price for the striker with Manchester United, who opted to sign Everton forward Romelu Lukaku instead.
That move had implications for Chelsea, who reportedly had the Belgian as their number one striking target.
