Jorge Mere is set to leave Sporting Gijon in a €9m deal although it is not yet clear if he will join Sampdoria, FC Koln or Malaga, say reports.
According to Onda Cero, those clubs have all met the Asturian club’s asking price for the highly-rated Spanish Under 21 international, while West Ham United also held talks.
Earlier this week, Cadena Cope journalist Javier Bautista reported the defender had passed a medical at La Rosaleda and would be announced by Malaga.
Los Boquerones may still yet land Mere, but his future remains unclear after Sporting announced on Sunday he would be leaving the club on loan while this now looks more likely to be a permanent move.
The 20-year-old made 61 appearances for Sporting’s first team, with 56 of them coming in the top flight over the last two campaigns.
