City ‘ahead of’ Chelsea for Danilo

Manchester City are ahead of Chelsea ‘by a considerable distance’ in the race to sign Real Madrid full-back Danilo, say reports.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the London club contacted Los Blancos on Tuesday but negotiations over the Brazilian with Pep Guardiola’s City have been underway for the past few weeks.

Marca had already reported the €30m-rated defender had decided to leave the Bernabeu with both English clubs vying for his signature.

A report in Globo Esporte from Sunday stated Antonio Conte’s side had already agreed a deal with the former Porto full-back, although this appears now not to be the case.

City released both Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta this summer and despite signing Kyle Walker, they missed out on a free transfer for Dani Alves.

The Manchester club want to sign one more top level full-back and believe the Brazil international fits their requirements.

Chelsea’s requirements are slightly different – believing Danilo can challenge Victor Moses for the right wing-back slot in a 3-4-3 formation.
