Barca change midfield plan

Barcelona have changed strategy in their attempts to overhaul their midfield this summer, although there are conflicting reports of their new approach.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans are going ‘all out’ for Marco Verratti and will now offer up a potential swap deal with Paris Saint-Germain in which Ivan Rakitic and Andre Gomes will both be mentioned.

However, Diario Sport state the club will end their public pursuit of both the 24-year-old Italian and Paulinho, hopeful that either the Parisians or Guangzhou Evergrande will ‘give them a signal’ they are willing to sell.

The Blaugrana were reportedly confident that when both players had publicly stated their desire to move to the Camp Nou, their parent clubs would effectively be forced into dealing with them.

However, that has not materialised and as yet no negotiations have started for either player.
