Atletico Madrid revealed Theo Hernandez ‘repeatedly rejected’ proposals to renew his contract before moving to Real Madrid.
Theo has crossed the capital, with a long-mooted move confirmed both by Los Colchoneros and Los Blancos, and in a statement on their official website Atletico explained their stance on the transfer.
“The player, who had a contract until 2021, has repeatedly rejected proposals for renewal at Atletico and offers from different European clubs for his services, while at the same time has repeatedly expressed his firm desire to play for Real Madrid,” the statement said.
Atletico’s statement also notes that the 19-year-old defender, who spent last season on loan at Alaves, never made a first team appearance for the club.
