Atleti ‘go all out for Costa’

Atletico Madrid have reportedly put all their eggs in one basket for the signing of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

According to AS, Costa is Atleti’s only striking target and the club must now agree a fee with Chelsea, given the Spaniard “only has one thought: of dressing in Rojiblanco.”

Furthermore, the 29-year-old will be put on an intense training programme by physician ‘Profe’ Ortega in the months leading up to January, as opposed to being loaned out to another Spanish club or a team in China.

This stems from Atleti’s ban on registering new players until the New Year due to breaking rules regarding the signing of foreign minors.

It would be Costa’s third spell with the Madrid club, who are facing “complications” in their pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais attacker Alexandre Lacazette but are firmly in the race for Monaco midfielder Fabinho, adds AS.

The newspaper believes Lacazette is currently nearer to Arsenal than Atleti but notes Los Colchoneros have offered €35m for Fabinho.

Moreover, they could have an advantage over Paris Saint-Germain as the principality side would prefer the Brazilian to join a team outside of France.
