Rulli wants regular football

The father of Real Sociedad’s Geronimo Rulli has stated the goalkeeper wants regular football despite reports he has agreed a deal with Napoli.

Sky Sport Italia have reported an agreement is in place for the Argentine to move to the Serie A giants as experienced goalkeeper Pepe Reina only has one year left on his current deal.

The 25-year-old only joined La Real permanently in January after a loan spell from Deportivo Maldonado, before signing for Manchester City and immediately being loaned back to the San Sebastian club.

However, the English club have a buyback clause for the goalkeeper and any deal would have to be constructed with their approval.

“It would be wonderful for him to play for Napoli,” Omar Rulli, the player’s father, told contra-ataque.it.

“All we Argentines know what it means to wear that jersey and defend it in a stadium like the San Paolo.

“But Gero wants to play as a starter, because there’s the World Cup next year and I don’t know how that could go if he had to contend the shirt with Reina.

“Gero is good friends with Duvan Zapata, who took him to the San Paolo a couple of times to see Napoli play. He has been clear with Manchester City, he wants to play regularly because in a year he can go to the World Cup.

“Manchester City promised him that he’d play in the FA Cup, but that’s not enough.”
