Mariano in Lyon talks?

Olympique Lyonnais are reportedly in talks to sign 60 percent of Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz for €10m.

According to Marca, Lyon have made the “best” offer for Mariano, who has also been linked with the likes of Malaga, Espanyol and Roma, although nothing has been formalised yet.

The newspaper explains Madrid were holding out for €15m plus a buyback clause, but OL’s proposal ensures Los Blancos will retain 40% of the player’s rights.

Mariano is also said to like the idea of playing in France, while relations between the two clubs have been “very good” since Karim Benzema’s transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009.

The 23-year-old scored five goals in just 302 minutes of football for Madrid last season, and Coach Zinedine Zidane agrees with his employers’ stance that the Dominican deserves more game time.

Lyon, meanwhile, are on the lookout for new strikers, with Alexandre Lacazette likely to leave and youngster Jean-Phillipe Mateta set to be loaned out.
