Ronaldo accused of tax fraud – report

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to face charges from Spanish prosecutors for an alleged €14.7m of tax evasion, according to reports.

On Thursday, prosecutors stated they had until the end of June to decide on whether or not they should charge the Portugal and Real Madrid forward based on the results of an investigation by tax officials.

Alleged irregularities were in relation to money the 32-year-old had in the Virgin Islands, although officials acknowledged adjustments to this structure in 2014, where the player paid back an extra €7m in tax.

Reports suggest that if Ronaldo is found guilty he could face a 15-month prison sentence, which is unlikely to be served – which is six months lower than Barcelona star Lionel Messi was handed for his tax issues.
