‘Numbers don’t lie’ – Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo feels he has once again confounded his critics as the number of goals he’s scored ‘don’t lie’ and spoke of a ‘truly special’ season.

The Portuguese star netted 16 times in his final 10 appearances for Madrid this season to help propel them to a La Liga and Champions League double, including firing a brace in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Juventus.

“We have enjoyed an amazing season, me and my teammates have won the double and it’s fantastic,” Ronaldo told reporters.

“The numbers don’t lie and I’m proving my critics wrong again so I don’t need to speak about myself as an individual.

“This is one of the best moments in my career and yes I have the opportunity to say that now most years but this season was truly special.

“Now I will rest for two days before returning to training with Portugal for a (World Cup) qualifying game and the Confederations Cup which is a new challenge for me.”
