Simeone hints at Atleti stay

Diego Simeone has hinted that he will stay at Atletico Madrid this summer by affirming he still “hopes” the side win the Champions League one day.

Atleti had taken an early 2-0 lead in their semi-final second leg but ultimately had the wind taken out of their sails by Isco, yet Simeone refused to give up on his dream, despite speculation that he may leave.

“It was a Champions League semi-final against a great team,” the Coach said after the game.

“They made things difficult for us at their place, but the team showed why they’ve been competing for as many years as they have.

“It was an extraordinary game, there was huge nobility from a lot of players in our team.

“It’s a shame we can’t clone players like Godin or Gabi, who have given their lives to the club.

“We’d put the tie in a very good place, but their goal hurt us a lot.

“I’m proud of the players and them staying in a very complicated semi-final. We didn’t just talk the talk.

“We thought it could be done and we were close to doing so.

“Oblak? He was on par with Madrid and Barcelona. It seems a small step, but it’s still a very big one. I hope we can take it someday.”
