Barcelona Vice-President Jordi Mestre has revealed that Lionel Messi’s new contract “is in the final stretch”.
AS had reported that Messi rejected Barca’s first offer of a renewal, but Mestre vowed after the Blaugrana’s 4-1 win against Villarreal on Saturday that an agreement for the No 10 “would bear fruit” in the near future.
“Messi? He’s been at an excellent level for many years, he’s won trophies and shown his greatness here,” he said.
“He’s generous, discreet and he never complains. He’s been like that for many years.
“His renewal? The truth is that it looks good. It’s in the final stretch and it’ll bear fruit.”
