Filipe Luis insists Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday “isn’t a short result at all, it’s a great one”.
Atleti scored just once at home against Leicester in their Champions League quarter-final first leg, but they did not concede an away goal either, prompting Filipe to commend his side for a job well done.
“It’s not a short result at all, it’s a great one, we didn’t concede a goal, we won our game, we did very well at home, and I think it was a complete game from us,” the former Chelsea left-back said after the game.
“We controlled and dominated them at all times. It’s a good result.
“We knew that to open their defence, long shots were an option so we tried to pull it off.
“Koke sent one onto the post, but in the end our goal came from a penalty. We were also solid in stopping them on the counterattack.
“The second leg? I think they’ll have more of the ball and take more risks, so we’ll have to be perfect defensively.
“They have players like Mahrez, who’s a ‘crack’ and Vardy, who’s a very quick striker, running off shoulders. We’ll have to be very focused.
“Griezmann? He’s a phenomenon and playing at an extraordinary level. Our defence is also in a great run of form.”
