The RFEF’s Competition Committee has confirmed that Neymar will miss the Clasico on April 23 due to a retrospective three-game ban.
Neymar was sent off for clattering into Diego Llorente out of frustration during Barcelona’s 2-0 defeat to Malaga in La Liga on Saturday, before sarcastically applauding the fourth official as he went down the tunnel.
Article 117 of the RFEF’s Disciplinary Code has subsequently been applied, with the governing body of Spanish football noting in a statement: “According to many different precedents, this Committee considers this type of action to be clearly subsumed into Article 117 of the RFEF’s Disciplinary Code, as an act of disregard for the collegiate.”
In addition to the game against Real Madrid, the Brazilian forward will miss the visits of Real Sociedad and Osasuna.
Barca have “10 working days” to lodge an appeal but are expected to do so imminently.
