City chase Valencia’s Gaya – report

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are weighing up a summer move for Valencia full-back Jose Luis Gaya, according to reports.

The Star claim the 19-year-old would be available for €35m, but the Citizens are confident they can bargain the price down by including Eliaquim Mangala, currently on loan at Los Che, as part of the deal.

The left full-back position has become an issue for City, with neither Gael Clichy nor Aleksandar Kolarov able to prove entirely dependable.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggested Guardiola was keen on a move for Atletico Madrid full-back Theo Hernandez, currently on loan at Alaves, although reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid are in pole position for the 19-year-old’s signature.

Gaya has made 75 appearances for Valencia and has become an established Spanish Under 21 international. However, in May 2015 the 21-year-old signed a new deal at the Mestalla until 2020 with a €50m release clause.
