Sampaoli eyes 6-4 repeat

Jorge Sampaoli reveals he is eyeing a repeat of Sevilla’s 6-4 triumph over Espanyol when his side travel to Cornella-El Prat on Sunday.

The 10-goal thriller would set the tone for the rest of Sevilla’s season as the Andalusians have become renowned for their aggressive style of play, which has seen them break into La Liga’s top three and reach the Champions League last 16.

“We hope to consolidate what we did in the first round of the season, knowing that we’re restarting at a very difficult place like Espanyol. Hopefully we play with the character we’ve shown in recent games,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“Recent results haven’t been in Real Madrid’s favour, but they’ll surely recover quickly and fight for the League until the final weeks.

“If I think that we can be leaders, it’ll depend on our results and theirs. For a few hours, until Real play, it’d be good to look in that direction.

“Barca or Madrid bigger rivals for Sevilla? Beyond those below us, Barcelona are on the up and will get a lot of points in this League, plus there’s Madrid, who are top.

“If they recover some of their players and their performances of previous weeks, they’ll stay there.

“Do Sevilla feel pressure? When you set objectives that you can’t meet, that frustration can cause a loss of confidence in what you’re doing. We hope it doesn’t happen to us.

“Montoya? He was being followed by many clubs. He played at a high level in the last two campaigns and he was being watched not only in South America, but also in Europe.

“All the players that are at the club today were chosen for this project. If anyone decides they don’t wish to be, they’ll have to make their own decisions.

“For a player that we chose to want out would be a failure. If he doesn’t come now then it’ll be in June.

“The 6-4 earlier in the season? It was a frantic start, one of our best performances.

“Beyond the four goals we conceded, we played with an unforgettable capacity in attack. Hopefully we can have another game with those characteristics.”
