Sampaoli ‘doesn’t want this Sevilla’

Jorge Sampaoli insists “a withdrawn Sevilla isn’t the Sevilla we want” after their Copa del Rey horror show against Real Madrid midweek.

Sevilla went down 3-0 to Madrid in the first leg of their Copa last-16 tie, and Sampaoli admits his side “must find our football of last year” as quickly as possible.

“We must find our football of last year, which gave us hope,” the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Real Sociedad in La Liga.

“Madrid were a very difficult rival, as will Real Sociedad at their place.

“The attitude of the players has to do with their disposition on the pitch. We were surprised by a very intense Madrid and couldn’t counter them in the first half.

“We have to build on what gave us so many [good] results.

“Rotations? We’ve reserved some players for this match and we’ll play with the best we have. We must find freshness.

“Lenglet is a centre-back with a big future. The market is still very long and we’re looking for something that improves us, which is difficult.

“If they come then we’ll welcome them, but we’re happy with the players we have.

“We must learn from what happened to us in Madrid. A withdrawn Sevilla isn’t the Sevilla we want.”
