Malaga close in on Penaranda

Malaga are close to signing teenage striker Adalberto Peñaranda on a loan deal from Premier League club Watford, according to reports in Spain.

Peñaranda penned a four-and-a-half year deal with Watford in February last year after a stint at Udinese but spent the entirety of last season on loan at Granada. (Watford, Udinese and Granada were all owned by the Pozzo family, before Granada were sold to Chinese investors in the summer of 2016)

However, the Venezuelan striker was immediately loaned back to the Udine-based side over summer but has made only six appearances and one start in Serie A this season.

Estadio Deportivo now report Malaga are on the verge of completing a deal for the 19-year-old for the remainder of the campaign, after discussions with Ivorian striker Lacina Traore reportedly broke down.

Peñaranda made 27 appearances for El Grana last season, netting five times, but is now set to turn out for their Eastern Andalucian rivals for whom he will become new manager Marcelo Romero's first addition.
