Joaquin Sanchez will miss the start of the New Year after Real Betis confirmed a calf injury for their captain.
Early tests on Joaquin after Betis’ 1-0 defeat to Alaves last Friday had showed an injury in the soleus muscle of his left leg, and the club’s official website has since stated that the winger is not expected back in training until “early 2017”.
The setback rules the veteran out of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey last-32 second leg against Deportivo La Coruna, although he should be back for the Andalusians’ first La Liga match of the New Year against Leganes.
