Sevilla lead race for Draxler

Sevilla have made Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler their number one transfer target for the January transfer window, according to reports.

Germans sports newspaper Bild claims the German international has been prioritised by the Europa League winners sporting director Monchi, who is aiming on reinforcing Jorge Sampaoli’s squad and offset a number of departures, a report that has been repeated in Marca.

Estadio Deportivo reports as many as four first-team squad players could depart in January with David Soria, Timothee Kolodziejczak, Benoit Trémoulinas and Hiroshi Kiyotake all facing exits from the Andalucian club.

Draxler has also interested Juventus, Manchester City and PSG but alongside Sevilla, they have been put off by the €30m price tag Wolfsburg have put on the 23-year-old.

However, Bild reports Monchi is working at a staged deal that could potentially include an initial loan spell for Draxler, similar to Samir Nasri’s arrival at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan from City.

The highly-coveted midfielder can play on either side of an attacking three or through the middle and is seen as an ideal fit for Sampaoli’s squad.
