Sampaoli hails hat-trick hero Iborra

Jorge Sampaoli reserved special praise for ‘decisive’ hat-trick hero Vicente Iborra who came off the bench to score all three Sevilla goals at Celta Vigo.

Iborra was introduced at the break to replace defender Nico Pareja to switch to three at the back and add an extra man into midfield with the 28-year-old coming on and becoming the first midfield substitute to score a hat-trick in La Liga.

“Vicente was decisive in the result and crucial in our game-development as we changed things when he came on to give us more control in midfield,” explained Sampaoli after the game.

“The first goal in the game was vital as it was two good sides who could create lots of chances and fortunately that was us.

“Celta have the ability to take advantage of small spaces but we played well at both ends of the pitch to obtain a really good win.

“It’s a very positive sign to go to Lyon and obtain our objective in Europe then to come back a few days later to another tough venue and do what we set out to do, the feeling at the moment is strong.”
