Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao has insisted he must improve his performances if he is to have a future at the club.
The 28-year-old has yet to make a league appearance for the club this season after struggling to regain fitness after suffering a knee injury during his loan spell at Monaco last season, and conceded a penalty in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory for Los Blancos at Sporting CP.
"Nothing is going my way now, I don't know what's happening," Coentrao is quoted as saying in Marca.
"I have to change this. I have to work hard to see if my life changes here, because it hasn't been easy. I keep asking myself what's happening but I don't know what's wrong.
"It'll be very tough to get playing time here – Marcelo is the best left back in the world right now. I have to make the most of the minutes I'm given. I feel bad right now and can only change that through hard work.
"I have to show on the field that I deserve to be playing for Madrid, which is the best club in the world, if I keep playing like this, I can't play here.
"I had a very serious injury and was able to return, but on the field things are not going my way. I don't know why. The only thing I can do is keep working to change this."
