JJ: We can stop Ronaldo

Sporting CP boss Jorge Jesus believes he has a plan to stop Cristiano Ronaldo scoring again against his former club in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Ronaldo netted a late equaliser against Sporting at the Bernabeu in September before Alvaro Morata headed in a stoppage time winner, but the former Benfica boss is confident his team can prevent a repeat result.

"Ronaldo was born to score goals, he is the striker who scores the most goals in the world," Jesus acknowledged in an interview with Marca.

"But yes, there are ways to stop someone of his talent.

“The key is that it has to be done with the help of all of the players.

"Of course you can prepare for it because when we don't want a player to have any space, we ensure it individually and collectively, as we did in Madrid."

The 62-year-old did acknowledged that his side won’t have the ‘surprise factor’ for the second meeting between the clubs, as may have been the case in Madrid.

"It won't be any different this time," he continued.

"Madrid will no longer be surprised at us, we can't invent anything new.

"We know each other now and maybe it will be easier for them from the point of view that they will understand that we are not a team to be underestimated.

"We are focused, strong and very concentrated."
