Sampaoli rues international dates

Jorge Sampaoli admits Sevilla’s preparations for Saturday’s trip to Deportivo La Coruna have been far from ideal. “There’s only been a little time to work…”

Sevilla go into their first game for a fortnight on the back of a draw and defeat in La Liga, leaving them potentially adrift of the top-four places if they slip up again, and Sampaoli took issue with the clustered nature of the Andalusians’ break, despite being a former international boss.

“The international dates mean there’s only been a little time to work. We’re evaluating situations to find out who can play,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“Nasri? He’s progressing well, but we’re waiting to see how he recovers for the game against Juve, although I prefer to focus on a match against a team in need [Depor].

“We have an obligation to think about Deportivo and Tuesday. The [Depor] game is important for us to stay in the places that we’re aiming for.

“It’s essential to be near the top and fight with the top teams. These next games will decide many things, so we must be very well prepared for them because the demands will be great.

“Signings in January? Like all things, they change over time. The club are working to look for players who can improve the squad in January.

“Monchi? It’s a personal decision, which the club won’t stand in his way of, but I hope he stays because he’s a successful sporting director that makes the Coach’s job easier.”
